President Obama speaks at COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland

  • November 10, 2021 at 2:58 pm

    President Obama:

"And then there's Louisa Neubauer, an activist who leads Fridays for Future strikes in Germany.
During the global climate strikes in 2019, Louisa helped organize 270,000 marchers in Berlin, put pressure on German political parties to take climate change seriously. Climate change is frightening, she said.
So the question is, how can we turn this anxiety into something constructive?
That's what these young leaders are already doing.
I'm really looking forward to sitting down and talking with some of them in a separate forum later today
because they're not just working for their own countries. They are forming a movement across borders to make the older generation that got us into this mess see that we all have an obligation to dig ourselves out of it.
And if those older folks won't listen, they need to get out of the way."

    A COMMUNITY
    TOOLKIT FOR
    ADDRESSING
    HEALTH
    MISINFORMATION

"If you're wondering whether this toolkit is for you, let me assure you that the answer is yes.
It's for all of us. Because health misinformation has reached nearly every corner of our society—and it poses an increasing danger to us and to our loved ones.
We all have the power to shape our information environment, but we must use that power together.
This resource is here to provide a set of tools for you to understand, identify, and stop misinformation, and help others do the same. Only then will we be able to work toward a better information environment—one that empowers us to build a healthier, kinder, and more connected world."

Once we learn these facts and Truths…what do we do…What does Justice look like…what does Equity look like…and how do we prevent this from happening again…i feel on occasions that something like this is brewing again…

i believe that the press ignores the VP's trip and tries to demonize Biden…they are terrified of the possibility that a Blk woman of color may become President….

last year there was a world wide reckoning of white supremacy and systemic racism….we were able to stop the march of Fascism in our country with the election Biden/Harris…keeping the HOUSE and gaining control of the Senate…..however the backlash has been huge…but not unexpected….while the cult party of the GOP remains focused on regaining power at the expense of democracy….the Democrats are not united…which is not unusual….a party as unwieldy as ours has trouble deciding on how to move forward and as always there are those who rather fail if they cannot get what they want…

how strong would we be if we had passed voting rights…if we had passed the George Floyd justice in policing bill…the infrastructure bill and BBB bill…

Here in PA…we must send a DEM to the Senate and to the Gov's seat…i will be focused on that goal..

Letter From Former High-Ranking National Security Officials To Congress:
Election Subversion Poses National Security Threat

    "Dear Members of Congress,

We are former senior national security officials who have served Democrats, Republicans, or administrations
of both parties. We write to express our alarm at ongoing efforts to destabilize and subvert our elections, both through active disinformation campaigns and the related efforts to inject partisan interference into our professionally administered election process. We believe these efforts are profoundly damaging to our national security, including by making our elections more vulnerable to foreign interference and possible manipulation.
We call on Congress to confront these threats and safeguard our democratic process as we look ahead to the 2022 elections and beyond.

In the months following the 2020 election, we have seen an unprecedented, coordinated effort
to cast doubt on the U.S. election system. Disinformation and intimidation campaigns have targeted elected officials who oversee elections, nonpartisan civil servants who administer them, and companies that manufacture election equipment. And these disinformation campaigns have in turn fueled efforts to undertake hyper-partisan reviews of 2020 election results, like the one that recently concluded in Arizona, weakening both the security and integrity of elections. The rampant spread of election disinformation and the efforts to undermine confidence in the democratic process jeopardize our national security in a number of dangerous ways."

    Democracy Docket: Five Years Later
    By Marc Elias

"When Trump took office, I was clear-eyed about what it meant for democracy and the rule of law.
I was prepared for his vulgar authoritarianism. I was not surprised by his clownish demands of obsequiousness from his staff. I assumed Mitch McConnell would see Trump as little more than a useful idiot in his effort to pack the federal courts. And I knew that Trump had no respect for democratic norms or rules.

Trump ended up being the worst president in the history of our country.
He ridiculed the exceptionalism of American democracy, and he belittled our country and its institutions.
He celebrated neo-Nazis and hate groups and politicized the Department of Justice. He appointed corrupt cronies, attempted to interfere in criminal prosecutions and investigations and tried to overturn an election he lost.
As his final act in office, he incited an insurrection in the nation's Capitol to overturn a free and fair election.

Last week marked the one-year anniversary of Trump's election defeat and the launch of the Big Lie.
But today marks the five-year anniversary of how the national nightmare began.
The Big Lie was born in the aftermath of the 2020 election, but it was conceived on Election Day in 2016.
    Without the 2016 election,
    there is no Big Lie,
    no violent insurrection,
    no unraveling of democracy."

Chris Hayes Podcast with Jay Caspian Kang | Why Is This Happening? – Ep 187

"The Hart-Celler Immigration Act of 1965 lifted a century of restrictions against Asian immigration
to the United States. And while not necessarily appreciated at the time, it inaugurated a sea change in American society, setting the nation on the course towards multicultural democracy. Asian Americans now represent the fastest growing demographic group in the country, and yet the category itself feels insufficient for the sheer scope of experiences, backgrounds and cultures it encompasses. What exactly does it mean to be Asian American at this moment? What does it mean for an America whose central axis of political conflict seems to hover over the color line? New York Times opinion writer Jay Caspian Kang probes these questions in his new book,
    "The Loneliest Americans."

Jay Kang: The podcaster and son of Korean immigrants joins to talk about assimilation amidst a wave of anti-Asian violence, increasing wealth gaps, limited representation and the need for more solidarity in pursuit of upward mobility."

      Where Are the Snow Leopards?
Scientists publish results from massive snow leopard survey in Mongolia

"The Altai Mountain range and Eastern Soyon Mountain ranges were identified as strongholds of snow leopard populations, suggesting these habitats must be protected at all costs.

It is believed there are only between 3,500-7,000 wild snow leopards in the world dispersed across 12 countries. Mongolia is home to the world's second-largest snow leopard population after China.
However, reliable snow leopard estimates are difficult to come by and most estimates are, at best, guesstimates. In 2017, the Bishkek Declaration endorsed by the governments of 12 snow leopard range countries expressed serious concerns about the continuing gaps in knowledge about snow leopard population and distribution. "

"The data presented here on snow leopard signs were collected over a period of five months by 12 teams represented by over 210 field personnel. The teams traversed 19,923 km of transects, of which 6,794 km (roughly the distance from the capital to the western-most border of Genghis Khan's empire) were covered on foot."

Born in 1879, his father was Danish, his mother part-Inuit.
He was raised in Greenland and taught Kalaallisut, the local Eskimo–Aleut language, as his primary tongue. These early years exposed him to Inuit culture, traditional hunting methods, and a host of polar survival skills.

His first true expedition, the 1902 Danish Literary Expedition, examined Inuit folklore in Greenland's northern reaches. He published The People of the Polar North on his return. The expedition, and subsequent publication, laid out a framework for the next 20 years of his life. Rasmussen devoted himself to scientific and anthropological expeditions in the Arctic"

"Give me winter, give me dogs," he once said. "You can keep the rest."

"Rasmussen, Qaavigarsuaq, and Arnarulunnguaq covered more than 30,000km of inhospitable terrain,
much of it unmapped. This longest-ever sled journey took more than three years. Along the way, they encountered many Inuit communities and amassed a collection of more than "20,000 specimens, of which 15,000 are ethnographical and archaeological."

"Rasmussen avoided the pitfalls of many a European explorer. He did not presume to know all the answers. Rather, he approached the Inuit as equals, eager to learn all he could of their cultural heritage and history. One hundred years later, his fifth expedition remains an iconic moment in polar exploration."

      "Across Arctic America"
      book by Knud Rasmussun (1927)

"Knud Rasmussen was a native Greenlander who was half Inuit and half Danish.

He was the first person to travel the Northwest Passage by dog-sled, around 1922, as re-told in this readable and enjoyable account first published in 1927.

Known as the "Fifth Thule Expedition",
it was designed to be an ethnographic expedition to answer "that great question the origins of the Eskimo race". A native speaker of Inuit, Rasmussen's insights into the religion and inner-life, voice and spirit of the Inuit remains a classic of polar travel literature and ethnography. The Inuit language is difficult to translate and Rasmussen's unique position of straddling both cultures proves indispensable.

Rasmussen traveled with two Inuit who had never before left Greenland.
On the return trip home by plane,
the group stopped in New York City and were awed by what they saw.
One said while looking over the city skyline from a rooftop:
"I see things more than my mind can grasp; and the only way to save myself from madness is to suppose that we have all died, and that this is part of another life."

Above the law? So how afraid are we?
What happened about ending global oil subsidies?

imo transnational Exxon and Big Oil purposely melted the Arctic for their own purposes.
After 50 years of lying to us about what their scientists graphically demonstrated behind closed doors,
how the hell do they still walk free while the future of our species and all life on Earth is in peril? What would Knud Rasmussen have said to them 100 years ago?

The lame question "What is your reaction to Trump's response on 'Hang Pence'?" is insufficient. How can you remain in a party in which calls to violence are acceptable? Why should Americans trust you with power. DO. BETTER. MEDIA.

Media has a lot to say about MVP Kamala Harris, when the last VP literally aided and abetted internal attacks on our democracy for 4 years.
